The original name of the fountain is associated with plans for the construction of the Sovetskaya metro station under the square, but even before the launch, the station was converted for civil defense needs. In the early 1990s, the fountain was renamed “Central”.

Today, the fountain is a pool with a bowl in the form of a flower, from which jets of water flow upwards. Several smaller fountains are located along the perimeter of the bowl.
