The sculpture was presented by Barbara Bush to Raisa Gorbacheva and “all children of the Soviet Union as a sign of love and friendship.” Immediately after the installation, the monument was raided by vandals who stole one of the ducklings. Then the duck mother herself and three other cubs were abducted. After that, American sculptors restored the composition. It is believed that the smallest duckling brings good luck to everyone who strokes it.
