Bolshaya Nikitskaya Street
**Bolshaya Nikitskaya Street** appeared in the late 15th — early 16th centuries. During the reign of Ivan IV and the existence of the Oprichnina, the possessions on the left side belonged to the oprichniks, while the right-sided Bolshaya Nikitskaya was built up with the houses of the zemshchina. Residents of Kislovskaya Sloboda located on the oprichnaya side were engaged in the preparation of pickles supplied to the royal court. Nearby was the Povarskaya Sloboda, where cooks, Kalashniks, etc. serving the royal house lived. At the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries, representatives of the noble class began to build their houses on the street.
There are many remarkable buildings on Bolshaya Nikitskaya Street. Thus, the Bryusov House is located here, which was built in the 70s of the XVIII century by one of the famous associates of Peter the Great Yakov Bruce. Bruce was an active participant in Peter the Great's military campaigns, negotiated with foreign rulers, and was a prominent diplomat and scientist. There are also two Ascension Temples on Bolshaya Nikitskaya — [Maloe] (http://kudago.com/msk/place/cerkov-malogo-vozneseniya/) and the Great Ascension.
An interesting story is also near the building, which originally belonged to Count V. Orlov, which now houses the publishing house of Moscow State University. There is also a house on this street that originally belonged to the Streshnev family, which at the end of the 19th century housed the Moscow private theater Paradise, and now [Helikon-Opera] ( http://kudago.com/msk/place/teatr-gelikon-opera/).
Walking along Bolshaya Nikitskaya, you can visit the Moscow Zoological Museum, which presents expositions of wildlife from all over the world. Also on this street is [Conservatory them. P. Tchaikovsky] (http://kudago.com/msk/place/konservatoriya-im-pichajkovskogo/) and [Mayakovsky Theater] (http://kudago.com/msk/place/mayakovsky/).
