The monument appeared on Italianskaya Street at the beginning of the XXI century, near the house of Jaco, which once housed the restaurant “Zolotoy Ostap”. Archil Gomiashvili, a Soviet actor who played the great combinator in Leonid Gaidai's “Twelve Chairs”, was present at the laying of the monument. The authors of the monument to Ostap Bender were sculptor Albert Charkin and architect Vyacheslav Bukhaev. The monument is specially made so that anyone can sit on the coveted chair and take a picture with Bender.
