Monument to the Russian intelligentsia

The massive sculptural composition “Pierced Pegasus” was installed in the summer of 2004. The monument is located in the park on the territory of the Sakharov Museum. Initially, the monument was supposed to look different: the central place in the composition would be occupied by the same Pegasus, symbolizing the ban on creativity and freedom and courage of thought, and around it should have the brightest representatives of the Russian creative intelligentsia — Mandelshtam, Pasternak, Gumilyov... The director of the Sakharov Museum decided otherwise: it makes no sense to look for the intelligentsia in the past and become attached to specific individuals. Thinking people will always be there, and this monument is dedicated to them.

The architect of the composition is Grigory Saevich, sculptors are Daniel Mitlyansky and Galina Shilina.
