Chambers of the Romanov boyars

According to historians, boyar chambers were built in the 16th century. According to legend, Mikhail Fedorovich Romanov, the founder of the royal dynasty, was born within these walls. The buildings are built on a slope that offers a beautiful view of the Moscow River. The museum complex introduces visitors to the “pre-tsar” period in the history of the ruling dynasty.

The House of the Romanov Boyars Museum was opened by the highest decree of Alexander II in mid-1859. It recreated the atmosphere of the ancestors of the Russian emperors. After the October Revolution, the museum became one of the branches of the Historical Museum and was renamed the Museum of Boyar Life, and the mention of the Romanov family was hushed up in every possible way.

In the second half of the 20th century, the museum was restored several times and during the work, a capital and necropolis of the 15th—16th centuries were discovered.

Today, the museum's exposition introduces the life of wealthy boyar families of the second half of the 17th century. The wards are divided into male and female halves, utility rooms, a library, and storage rooms. In the manor basement there is an underground archaeological museum with a pottery workshop built between the 15th and 17th centuries.
