Mazepa Chambers
In one of the small alleys of Maroseyka, next to the sandbox and swing, there is the [Lutheran Cathedral] (https://kudago.com/msk/place/kafedralnyj-sobor-svyatyh-apostolov-petra-i-pavla/) and ancient chambers , where Hetman Mazepa once lived. However, not all local historians agree with the latest statement.
This building was built in the 16th century and is one of the oldest monuments of civil architecture in Moscow. For its time, it is perfectly equipped: there are chimneys hidden inside the walls, so-called “showers” (holes through which warm air penetrated into the rooms). If we talk about architecture, the chambers can be attributed to the style of Moscow Baroque. On the courtyard side, the building is decorated with hewn bricks, platbands and cornices.
Some historians believe that at one time the chambers belonged to the brother of Tsarina Evdokia, the first wife of Peter the Great. In Soviet times, chambers became communal apartments. In the 70s of the last century, the building was occupied by the Visa and Registration Department of the Ministry
In 2003, the interiors of the historic building were restored, and even window frames were specially ordered according to the model of the XVII century. Today, religious holidays are regularly celebrated here. The place is great for a plein air of artists, especially since there is an art school nearby.
