Crimean bridge

The Crimean Bridge was opened for automobile and pedestrian traffic in 1938. It has a hanging design. From Krymskaya Square, you can use it to get to Krymsky Val.

There are several versions of the origin of the name: when raiding, in this place the Crimean Tatars crossed the river along the so-called Krymsky Brod, the bridge connects the Krymskaya Square Krymsky Val, in the XVI the courtyard of the Crimean Khan was located nearby.

On the site of the modern crossing from 1789 to 1870, there was a wooden Nikolsky Bridge. In the 70s of the XIX century, it was replaced by a metal one. In 1936, the bridge was dismantled.

The length of the modern Crimean Bridge is 688 meters, and the width is 38.5 meters. The three river spans are 168 meters long each. The height of the pylons is 28.7 meters, they do not connect at the top. Chains with a length of 297 meters are fixed at the ends of the bridge. The design of the bridge is original. There are very few such bridges in the world.

In 2001, the bridge was reconstructed. The main beam spans were repaired, anti-corrosion treatment was carried out, heavy-duty bolts were installed to replace old rivets, asphalt pavement was laid and granite slabs were updated. In 2012, the bridge was again sent for repairs, which lasted several years.

The Crimean Bridge is protected by the Moscow government as an object of cultural heritage.
