The bridge is made of stones of different sizes and resembles a cave or grotto. Water has not flowed under it for a long time: the stream that once flowed into the Moscow River has dried up. Despite the mysteriously gloomy halo, people are drawn to this place. According to the legend of Neskuchny Garden, newlyweds should walk along the Grotesque Bridge to bring happiness to their family life.

During the first half of the 20th century, the structure slowly collapsed and settled. It was restored in the 1960s. The next restoration work was carried out in 2007.
