The Rape of Europe Fountain

The author of the avant-garde composition was Belgian sculptor Olivier Strebel, and the sculpture was presented to Moscow by the government of Brussels.

The sculptural composition is a giant sheaf of silver steel pipes intertwining and soaring into the sky.

The fountain stages a well-known plot from ancient Greek mythology: the abduction of Europe by Zeus, who took the form of a bull. The sculpture is made in an abstract style.

By decision of the authorities, the sculpture was placed on Europe Square, and a fountain was built around.

The opening of the fountain took place in September 2002, when part of the Kievsky Railway Station Square was renamed Europe Square.
