Fedor Chaliapin's house in 3rd Zachatyevsky Lane
By this time, Fedor Chaliapin had achieved unprecedented fame and fame, and his family life with his wife and three children was also developing perfectly. In 1903, the singer was in trouble: his son Igor died of appendicitis. Chaliapin could not accept the loss and even tried to commit suicide. He was unable to stay in the apartment where the grief had happened. After that, the artist's family moved to a new house located in Zachatyevsky Lane. There are several versions why Chaliapins chose this particular home. In the most plausible way, this house, located not far from the Zachatyevsky Monastery, was recommended to Chaliapin by the abbess of this Valentine church. There is also an opinion that the singer won the mansion in Zachatyevsky at cards.
It was here that Fedor Ivanovich's son Boris was born, who later became a major artist, and a year later twins Tatyana and Fedor were born in the same house. Chaliapin loved his children madly, worked hard, trying to give them everything he was deprived of as a child: a comfortable life, the opportunity to travel, an excellent education. Despite the eternal lack of time and fatigue, Fedor Ivanovich never denied children games and attention, getting no less pleasure from it than the kids themselves.
Noisy companies of his close friends and casual acquaintances gathered in Chaliapin's house. Dinner parties were regularly held here, attended by the family's closest friends — the family of composer Rachmaninoff, artists Serov and Korovin, and other famous artists. In 1907, the family left this house and moved to a mansion on Novinsky Boulevard, where the [Chaliapin Museum] (http://kudago.com/msk/place/memorialnaya-usadba-fedora-shalyapin/) is now located.
Little is known about the further fate of the house in Zachatyevsky Lane. A decade later, Akhmatova lived here, as mentioned in her poem “The Third Zachatyevsky...”. Nowadays, this house has been purchased by a company that plans to rebuild it into offices. The appearance of the building has already been distorted: the wooden log house was bricked, and an attic was erected above the stone part.
