The shelter, built in 1900, did not protect against bombing, but from poverty and disease. The luxurious room, with beautiful architecture, spacious, with a lot of air and light, began to save people from death since 1901. And if the Refuge was saved from physical death, then in the Church of the Smolensk Mother of God built under him, they gave hope for eternal life.

The beautiful stone, five-domed church with a hipped bell tower now does not call for salvation with its bell ringing, does not give that hope, but retains its former greatness and memory of human mercy.
